Fund raisers

Can you spare a couple of hours from time to time? Join our fund raising register and we will notify you of future events and collections. If you can spare time for particular events, you just let us know. Every hour from every volunteer makes a difference for local animals.

Fosterers

Can you offer a comfortable and safe home along with patience and lots of love, as some of our animals are nervous or scared at first until they find their feet? Short term fostering is flexible, low cost (we pay food and vet bills) and very rewarding volunteer work. We are very short of cat and rabbit fosterers, and would welcome enquiries from people who feel able to take up the challenge.

Shop volunteers

Shops are the main source of branch fund raising for the vital animal welfare work. We are in need of volunteers to help serve customers, to sort out stock as it arrives from generous donations. A half day would be fantastic, but if you can give more time, all the better! We haveĀ  shops in St Ives and March.

Please ring 01354 653164 (answer-phone service) or 07508 609428 for more information about volunteering

Volunteering is good for your health (and the animals!)

One of the best ways that you can help local animals in need is by volunteering for your local RSPCA branch. We rely on volunteers to fund raise, run the shop and provide vital backroom tasks such as publicity, administration and even keeping this website up to date.

As well as making a difference for local animals in need, you will definitely benefit yourself from volunteering for the RSPCA. Here are some of the big plus points that our own volunteers talk about:

  • Making new friends and having fun with a like minded bunch of people
  • Fulfilling your retirement
  • Strengthening your CV when job hunting
  • Supporting your career development at work
  • Giving you added confidence
  • Learning new skills (training for volunteers is free)

Two research studies confirm that volunteers are happier and even live a longer life!

In the 2004 CSV and Barclays joint ICM research, nearly two thirds of respondents reported that they felt less stressed or that volunteering helped to combat depression. Half of the volunteers agreed that volunteering had improved their physical health and fitness.

The study commissioned by Volunteering England found that volunteering had a range of health benefits and even can prolong the lives of volunteers. The research also discovered that volunteering boosts confidence and self-esteem, reduces hopsital visits and equips people better to fight stress and illness.

So you see, it is not only the local animals in need that benefit from you volunteering! We welcome anyone over the age of 16 for as many or as few hours as you can lend. Why not give it a go and see if you like it?
